What you'll learn

This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to be able to pass along the wealth of knowledge a seafarer has by multiple means:

  • Address and resolve challenging participant behaviors.
  • Deliver and facilitate a training program, utilizing audiovisual aids and handouts effectively.
  • Recognize and assess the need for training.
  • Comprehend and explain the training cycle.
  • Create participant-focused learning materials and exercises.
  • Fulfill the objectives outlined in the IMO Model Course 6.09 for Instructors.
  • Develop clear and effective learning objectives.
  • Implement adult learning principles, foster supportive learning environments, and adapt pre-existing materials.
  • Prepare thoroughly for training sessions and help participants engage in the learning process.
  • Effectively manage and motivate participants from diverse backgrounds and with different learning styles.
  • Assess the impact of the training program at various levels using multiple evaluation methods.
  • Employ diverse training activities, alternatives to traditional lectures, and strategies for varying learning needs, while mastering effective questioning techniques.
  • Identify and explain the levels of evaluation.

Assessment and Certification

The Train the trainer course is continually assessed and includes a several assessments, which are usually delivery of a small piece of content. On completion of the course, delegates will receive the IMO Model Course 6.09 Train the Trainer Certificate.
